Marco Rose sacked as BVB Head Coach

Rose was a professional footballer who began his career at Lokomotive Leipzig and then proceeded to Hannover 96 and also played at Mainz 05, in the days of the Opel Arena. Upon his retirement, Rose took the job of Lokomotive Leipzig’s B team and later left to coach at Mainz 05, also their U-21s, and then got the role of assistant manager at RB Leipzig.

He became RB Leipzig’s manager in 2017 and spent the 2017/18 season as well as the 2018/19 season at the club. Rose then moved from Austria and returned to his native Germany to assume duties at Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2019. At ‘Gladbach, he spent two seasons before taking the role of head coach at Borussia Dortmund in July last year, taking over from Swiss tactician Lucien Favre.

Rose failed to get past the group stage of the UEFA Champions League this season and also failed to progress in the UEFA Europa League as well, summarising a dismal season on the continental scene. Borussia Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga, behind reigning champions Bayern Munich as the Bavarians won the league with three matches to spare.

Dortmund are yet to contact anyone for the vacancy now and will push all dealings till the end of the month and most likely the start of June. Dortmund are going to continue in the transfer market through their sporting director and chief of scouting. Both offices will then be in charge of incoming and outgoings in terms of players this summer till a head coach is appointed in the coming weeks, as the Yellow and Black look forward to next season and its prospects.
