The federal government has stated that the recovered N31.8 billion Abacha loot was spent on programmes designed to change the plight of Nigerians living in poverty.

The revelation was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments, Maryam Uwais, in her keynote address at a 2-day Experts’ Training and Advocacy on Tracing and Recovery of Illicit Funds and Assets organized by the Human Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Uwais disclosed that the total amount from the Abacha loot from August 2018 to the October payment cycle was $76,538,530 and $27,099,028, explaining that the funds were sent to beneficiaries under the National Cash Transfer Programme, a part of the National Social Investment Programme.
