French giants Paris Saint Germain are reportedly hopeful of signing Benfica star boy Darwin Nunez, who has been attracting interest around Europe’s top 5 leagues with his scoring prowess. Nunez has become a subject of attention amongst many big clubs in the European continent this season, with the forward being a very high-scoring format that has not gone unnoticed.
Nunez has scored 26 goals in 28 Primera division matches, higher than anyone in the Portuguese league this season and has been very instrumental for Benfica finishing in a top-four position and the 22-year-old is seen as a huge part of the club and its philosophy. Nunez also scored 6 goals in 10 UEFA Champions League appearances this campaign, with Benfica losing to Liverpool in the quarter-final of the competition.
With such scoring form, many clubs in need of a striker have made approaches to sign Nunez, and most recently PSG have come forward with a proposal. The French club are understood to be offering Nunez up to £82m to join the Parisian side and it is likely Nunez will head to the French capital in the summer.
Manchester United are also monitoring Nunez and are working to make a deal in the region of £65m but the board are yet to agree internally as they await the resumption of newly-appointed manager Erik ten Hag who will resume in June. PSG are set to let Mauro Icardi leave this summer, with a host of clubs ready to sign the Argentina international. Borussia Dortmund are currently monitoring Icardi but no approach has been made yet.
Nunez is also a versatile forward who can play from center-forward, left-wing, and right-wing. He is currently weighing up his options and could make his mind up soon, perhaps in a matter of weeks. The Uruguayan is happy at Benfica but wants to join a ”bigger” club in order to become a renowned name and figure in football.
Italian sides are also in the running for Nunez, with Milan and Lazio very interested in the striker. It is not certain yet where Nunez will go but it will definitely be a European powerhouse this summer. Paris have communicated their price and will wait for feedback from Benfica in a few weeks’ time.
