OpenAI CEO Comments on GPT-4 Rumors and Future of AI Development
Sam Altman

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has commented on the rumors surrounding the highly anticipated GPT-4, the latest in the GPT-series and the foundation of AI chatbot ChatGPT.

During an interview with StrictlyVC, Altman stated that GPT-4 will be released “when we are confident we can do it safely and responsibly.” He also dismissed the viral and factually incorrect chart that compares the number of parameters in GPT-3 (175 billion) to GPT-4 (100 trillion) as “complete bullshit.”

The CEO went on to express that the hype surrounding GPT-4 is unrealistic, saying “people are begging to be disappointed and they will be. The hype is just like… We don’t have an actual AGI and that’s sort of what’s expected of us.”

Altman also discussed OpenAI’s efforts in building an AI model capable of generating video, stating it’s a “legitimate research project.” He also touched on the subject of bias in AI systems and the need for AI with different viewpoints.

Altman also talked about the future of AI, specifically in terms of its impact on education and the potential for AI plagiarism. He stated that “we’re going to try and make it so that it’s really easy to use AI to help you write, but also really easy to detect AI-generated text.” He acknowledged that generated text is becoming a reality that we all need to adapt to, but also emphasized the importance of being able to detect and differentiate between human-generated text and AI-generated text.

The OpenAI CEO also touched on the subject of the company’s current revenue, stating “Not much. We’re very early.” He went on to say that OpenAI’s main focus is on research and development, and that generating revenue is not currently a top priority for the company.

In conclusion, Altman’s statements during the interview provide insight into the current state of OpenAI and the company’s goals for the future. While the release date for GPT-4 remains uncertain, it is clear that OpenAI is focused on developing AI in a safe and responsible manner. The company is also actively exploring new areas of AI research, such as generative video AI and addressing the issue of bias in AI systems.
