good 4 u
Song by Olivia Rodrigo
Produced by Alexander 23 & Dan Nigro
Album: Sour
Released: 14 May 2021
βgood 4 uβ is the third single from Olivia Rodrigoβs upcoming debut studio album, SOUR.
The songβs hook is laced with sarcasm, as Olivia sharply addresses her former partner for quickly moving on from their relationship without much of an issue or any care towards her at all. Like with her previous single, βdeja vu,β Olivia again experiments musically, this time using drums and a guitar as primary instruments to emphasize her anger building up as the song progresses. Its angsty, pop-rock sound has drawn comparisons to 2000s acts like Paramore and Avril Lavigne.
In the music video, Olivia plays a high school cheerleader who is feeling distraught and vindictive over her former partner. She purchases a container of gasoline from a convenience store and appears to destroy her exβs bedroom, setting it ablaze and causing it to flood. In the final shot, Olivia submerges herself into a lake with glowing red eyesβa subtle homage to the 2009 cult classic Jenniferβs Body in which Jennifer stares into the camera with bloodshot eyes while swimming in a lake.
Olivia first teased the song and its music video on April 26, 2021, by posting an Instagram photo showing her dressed as a cheerleader. On May 9, 2021, the song was revealed to be her next single in SOURβs album trailer shown at theatrical screenings of In The Heights. The next day, its release was officially announced by Olivia on Instagram.
