The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a stern caution to the members of its 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 orientation course against engaging in indecent dressing and showing disrespect towards the corps uniforms. The warning was delivered by Mr. Jingi Denis, the NYSC Adamawa Coordinator, during the swearing-in ceremony at the Damare camp in Girei Local Government, Adamawa.
Mr. Denis underscored the gravity of the matter, stating that any corps member found guilty of such conduct would be subject to appropriate sanctions. He emphasized the importance of understanding and adhering to the provisions outlined in the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws, emphasizing that failing to do so might have far-reaching consequences, even impacting their future careers.
“It is imperative that you take the stipulations in the bye-laws seriously, as neglecting them could potentially haunt you long after your service year, potentially tarnishing your professional prospects,” he urged. “Make the right choices now to ensure a regret-free future.”
The coordinator further urged the corps members to approach their camp experience with a sense of responsibility and active engagement. Participation in the various camp programs and activities, he stressed, would not only enrich their NYSC experience but also contribute to their personal growth and development.
During the event, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Edga Amos, extended his congratulations to the newly deployed corps members for successfully completing their graduation. He acknowledged the challenging landscape of the job market and urged them to explore avenues beyond conventional white-collar jobs.
“Today, the employment landscape demands creativity and adaptability,” Governor Fintiri’s representative stated. “We encourage you to leverage the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme to equip yourselves for self-employment. You are integral partners in driving our people-centered policies and initiatives, particularly in education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development.”
Mr. Wali Yakubu, the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in Adamawa, also addressed the corps members. He emphasized the significance of adhering to the camp’s rules and regulations and strongly urged them to actively participate in skill acquisition activities.
“Wholeheartedly embracing this program can transform you from being mere job seekers to becoming job creators,” Yakubu affirmed.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from the NYSC and the local government authorities to support the welfare and security of the corps members, echoing the sentiment that those who receive much are expected to give much back to society.
As the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 orientation course commences, the corps members are urged to take the advice of their mentors and officials to heart, as they embark on a journey that not only shapes their professional trajectories but also contributes to the greater societal good.
