In 2019, Aliyu Mohammed Sani almost lost his life after drinking contaminated gutter water in celebration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election victory. Luckily, some kind-hearted individuals intervened and paid for his medical bills. Now, Sani has disavowed both the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and changed his moniker from ‘Ali Gayu Na Baba Buhari’ to ‘Ali na Baba Kauran Bauchi’. Sani announced his decision at a press conference at the Correspondents Chapel of the Bauchi NUJ, where he cited frustration as the reason for his departure from the party.

Sani said that no APC member cared about him after the incident, except Alhaji Musa Azare, who sympathized with him and gave him some financial assistance. As a result, he shifted his loyalty to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Azare, who he says has always been there for him. Sani, who works as a tailor, also spoke of his desire to be empowered through his skill, rather than just receive money from the party. He now has over 20 youths working under him, whom he is training in his trade.

Sani expressed regret for his actions and urged youths not to engage in such dangerous behavior. He also warned that anyone who calls him ‘Ali Gayu Na Baba Buhari’ will face legal action, as he has officially changed his moniker.
