Mustapha Bukar: Senator Representing Buhari's Hometown Is Dead

Senator Mustapha Bukar, aged 63, representing Buhari’s hometown Daura zone in Katsina North is dead following a brief illness according to family sources.

As at the time of filling this report terms surrounding his death are yet to be revealed. Hospital where he died or details of where he died are sketchy at this point.

Born on December 31, 1954, Mr M. Bukar obtained a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering at Ahmadu Bello University in 1978; and in 1989, he was appointed General Manager/Chief Executive of the Katsina State Water Board and made Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources.

Senator Bukar was elected to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 and, until his death, was the Vice-Chairman of the Senate’s Power Commitee.

While reacting to the lawmaker’s death on Wednesday, President Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, posted on his official Twitter account that Bukar was “an honest man“.

Bukar’s death occurred barely a week after the passing of a member representing Lokoja/Kogi/Koton Karfe, Umar Buba Jibril.

On March 17, a senator representing Bauchi South, Ali Wakili, died at the age of 58 after a brief illness.

He’ll be buried later today in Daura, Katsina according to Islam rites.

Senate president, Bukola Saraki mourns

The senate president Bukola Saraki has taken to his Twitter handle to mourn the late senator he tagged the late his friend saying he (Bukar) ‘stood for the quality of his contributions on the floor, his pragmatism and his work to strengthen the institution of the legislature.’
