Why Morata Reacted Angrily After Subbing Him Off Against Burnley - Conte

Antonio Conte has shared his impression on why Alvaro Morata reacted angrily when he was subbed off yesterday in Chelsea‘s 2-1 win against Burnley in Lancashire.

Although, the Spaniard forward, Morata missed a glorious chance against Burnley on Thursday evening at Turf Moor and should have put his team in the lead.

His miss looked to have been punished by Burnley, who equalised through Ashley Barnes, but a goal from Nigeria’s Victor Moses reestablished Chelsea’s lead which later decided the goal.

Antonio Conte said frustration got the better of the Spaniard after the huge miss. He said;

“Alvaro must be angry, because when you have the chance to score you have to score and it can change your confidence,” he said.

“He was angry with himself for his missed chance. But I have to see his whole performance and it wasn’t possible in the past to play with two strikers. They did a great job, as did the whole team.”

70 minutes on the clock, Morata was replaced by Eden Hazard, with the striker goaded by the home fans for the miss as he made his way off the pitch.

When asked whether he took Morata off because of the squandered opportunity, the Italian said it was purely tactical.

“No. Honestly. Around 70 minutes I thought that it was better to put fresh strength with Hazard. He is a player that has different characteristics to Morata. I am pleased for their performances, played very well.”
