Madonna Pays for Brother's Care as He Dies of Cancer Linked to Smoking

Anthony Ciccone, Madonna’s oldest brother, has died from a combination of respiratory failure and oropharyngeal cancer, which is often caused by smoking. The death certificate, obtained by TMZ, also stated that tobacco use contributed to Anthony’s death.

Anthony was getting treatment at a nursing facility in Michigan when he died in February at the age of 66. Madonna had been footing the bill for his treatment. Two days before his death, Anthony had his feeding and breathing tubes removed, despite knowing the dire consequences of doing so.

The death certificate bears Madonna’s first name, as it was the name of their mother. The document also stated that Anthony had been cremated.

Anthony’s relationship with his famous younger sister had been challenging, and he had reportedly suffered from alcoholism, which led to homelessness. Although Anthony had publicly criticized Madonna and the rest of the family, sources indicate that the family had always had his best interests at heart.

Anthony’s death highlights the seriousness of smoking and the harmful effects it can have on one’s health. Oropharyngeal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils. Smoking is one of the leading causes of oropharyngeal cancer, and quitting smoking is crucial in reducing one’s risk of developing the disease.
