Lekki Flood: Residents Remain Grounded In Their Homes

Following the recent incessant rain that is being experienced across Nigeria, Lekki, the Island axis of Lagos seems to be in a pretty shape at the moment. Flood has been the order of the day and residents are finding it difficult to go about their activities as they remain trapped in their homes.

The rain hasn’t been heavy only continuous. People have been seen in canoes, boats and other sorts of water transport to move from one end to another.

According to residents who spoke to Channels TV, they are calling on the government to do something before the whole region is submerged by water. Their complaint has been mainly on the Lekki/ Ajah masterplan been compromised and this point, the government could be the only solution.

Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Government reiterated its call for residents to observe extreme caution on the roads as torrential rain persists across the state.

The Police also asked road users in the state to avoid the Ahmadu Bello Way on Victoria Island for some time.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, said heavy downpour is expected for a few more weeks and warned residents to desist from dumping refuse on water channels.
