The young man who is seeking justice

Twitter users have joined their voices to that of a distressed young man who is seeking justice for Jemima, whose death could have been avoided if the hospital she was taken to had made a different decision.

The young man’s story is both touching and heartbreaking as he laments how the killer is about to walk free in a country that doesn’t hold perpetrators of heinous crimes accountable for their acts.

According to the man (whose account is @OthnielAnselm), his sister, Jemima, a second-year Statistic student at the University of Jos, and her friend, Jennifer, were on their way to church on Sunday when the tricycle they were in was hit by a driver in a BMW, causing it to somersault three times.

The BMW driver had been celebrating his birthday (which was that same day) and had gotten drunk, causing his car to veer off his lane and ram into the tricycle. He survived the accident, while the Keke (the common name for tricycle) driver died on the spot.

Jemima and her friend were still alive and were rushed to the Nigerian Airforce Hospital, where they were rejected. The hospital demanded a police report before administering treatment.

They were rushed to another hospital but before help could come their way, they both died.

Now, the BMW driver is about to be granted bail (something unheard of considering his recklessly drunk driving led to three people losing their lives).

The young man who shared the story is now crying for justice for his sister, but in a country this ‘bent’, that may not happen as a lot of its citizens, that may not happen.

But if the drunk driver pays for his crime, the aggrieved brother may at least find some measure of peace.  See his post below:
