Israel Adesanya defends actions towards Alex Pereira's son
Adesanya justifies mocking Pereira’s son at UFC 287

Israel Adesanya, the current UFC Middleweight Champion, has explained the reasons behind his actions towards the son of his Brazilian rival, Alex Pereira, after his victory at UFC 287. In a controversial move, the ‘last stylebender’ mocked Pereira’s son after defeating the Brazilian via knockout on April 9, 2023, to reclaim the UFC Middleweight title he lost to him last year.

This move by Adesanya has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some criticizing him for ‘unnecessarily’ targeting the little boy after beating his father. However, in an exclusive interview with XcellentMMA, Adesanya has revealed his motivations behind this action.

Adesanya revealed that he felt compelled to teach the boy ‘manners’ and respect’, a lesson he felt was lacking in the child’s upbringing. This feeling stemmed from the little boy’s previous actions, where he had mocked Adesanya after his father defeated him to emerge as Middleweight champion.

In Adesanya’s words, “The guy [Pereira] knocked me out in his home country. And then you see your kid doing that [mocking me] and you don’t have the discipline to scold him. If you are not going to teach your kid manners and respect, I will. So, I did him a favour. I did that kid a favour. Now he has a life lesson that he can hold on to forever. I’m glad I did it.”

This explanation from Adesanya sheds new light on the situation, with some fans now understanding his motivations for his actions. However, there are those who still feel that targeting a child in this manner was unwarranted and unnecessary, regardless of the circumstances.

In conclusion, Adesanya’s actions at UFC 287 have generated much discussion and debate, with the champion standing by his decision to teach the young boy a lesson in manners and respect. While some fans may not agree with his methods, it is clear that Adesanya is a fighter who is not afraid to stand up for himself, both inside and outside the Octagon.
