INEC To Allow Atiku, PDP Inspect Election Materials After Receiving Court Order

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has replied claims by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it is being prevented by the electoral body from inspecting election materials.

The Cable reports that INEC made its position clear on the matter through Rotimi Oyekanmi, the spokesperson to the Commission’s chairman Mahmoud Yakubu.

According to the report, INEC has yet to receive the court order directing it to allow PDP’s presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku to inspect election materials used during the Saturday, February 23 elections

This, INEC says, is responsible for the delay PDP is experiencing in having access to the materials it wished for.

“It is common knowledge that since the declaration of the results of the presidential election, the commission has been busy with the multiple activities associated with the national assembly, governorship, state houses of assembly and federal capital territory elections.

“Only last Thursday, the commission presented certificates of return to senators-elect and house of representatives members-elect, including PDP members.

“Nevertheless, the commission will comply when the due process is followed,” Oyekanmi said.
