Henry Cavill Out As Superman, Warner Bros. To Focus On Supergirl

Henry Cavill’s days as Superman are numbered as Warner Bros. is focusing on kick-starting a new film, Supergirl.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Henry might stop playing the Man Of Steel hanging up his cape after contract talks over a Shazam! Superman cameo fell through.

The British actor, who first donned the blue suit for 2013’s Man of Steel, and then starred in 2016’s Batman v. Superman and last year’s Justice League, is said to be hanging up the red cape.

It’s reported that the conflict over Shazam! is a major factor which makes the studio shift their focus away from Superman and towards Supergirl.

An origin film for a teenage Supergirl is currently in the works, which would prevent Cavill’s participation, since the source comics depict Superman as an infant at this point in the story.

The studio is then unlikely to make another solo Superman film for several years, with a source stating: “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors.”

It’s a decision which aligns naturally with the new direction Warner Bros has been intent on taking; indeed, it will come as no surprise if the studio increasingly sheds its DCEU (DC Extended Universe) past, with Ben Affleck also rumoured to be stepping down from the role of Batman in Matt Reeves’s upcoming standalone film.
