Google Celebrates Chinua Achebe's 87th Posthumous Birthday

Late Nigerian novelist and critic, Chinua Achebe has been honoured in a Google Doodle, underscoring his status as a transcending figure of twentieth-century writing.

By making a doodle stamping of what might have been Achebe’s 87th birthday celebration, the tech mammoth is praising an essayist many consider to be the father of present-day African writing.

Composing in the midst of a post-colonial development that saw African countries push off many years of remote rule and look for political power, Mr Achebe gave a voice to an age of Africans who declined to be characterized exclusively through the focal points of European idea.

Some portion of that work included recounting particularly African stories from the point of view of African characters, producing a writing that — like recently made nations — was autonomous from Europe.

Achebe died on 21th March, 2013 at the age of 82 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
