Due to the immense success of Jenifa, Funke Akindele Bello is one of the biggest stars in Nollywood. Now, the talented comedian has joined forces with entertainment company, EbonyLife for her directorial debut, Your Excellency.
Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde Bello (popularly known as Funke Akindele) is a Nigerian actress and producer. Funke starred in the sitcom I Need to Know from 1998 to 2002, and in 2009 she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
She plays the lead character in the show Jenifa’s Diary, for which she was named Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Funke Akindele Bello has over 100 movies to her credit as actress, writer, and producer.
On May 26, 2012, Funke Akindele Bello married Adeola Kehinde Oloyede. Citing irreconcilable differences, the couple divorced in July 2013. Funke Akindele Bello married Nigerian rapper Abdul Rasheed Bello, known as JJC Skillz, in London in May 2016.
Google said that for the week of August 2017, “Funke Akindele pregnancy” dominated search phrases in Nigeria. Through JJC, she has several step-children. With JJC Skillz, she gave birth to twin boys in December 2018.
Funke Akindele Bello has always passed social commentary in everything she’s involved with, right from her breakout in I Need To Know. This time, with “Your Excellency”, she’s taking on the political landscape and adding her signature brand of humour to the pertinent subject matter.
Speaking about the film’s synopsis, Mo Abudu of Ebonylife said:
“Your Excellency tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi, a bumbling, billionaire businessman and failed presidential candidate, who is obsessed with Donald Trump.
Just when his campaign looks set to be another disaster, Ajadi is anointed by a major party and becomes a credible contender – all through the power of social media.”
Well, given that we live in a city full of men like this, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing how they pull this off. Your Excellency boasts a star-studded cast that includes Lala Akindoju, Eku Edewor, Alexx Ekubo, Osas Ighodalo, Ini Dima-Okojie, Deyemi Okanlawon, Chigul and Helen Paul.
