Former President Buhari's Absence at APC Meeting Explained
Former President Buhari Sends Apologies for Non-Attendance

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has clarified the reason behind his absence at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting, shedding light on his unavailability due to pre-existing commitments. The caucus meeting, scheduled for August 2, was held at the presidential villa, while the national executive committee (NEC) summit, planned for August 3, is set to convene party leaders at Transcorp Hilton.

Garba Shehu, the spokesperson for the former president, released a statement elucidating Buhari’s absence and his heartfelt apologies for being unable to attend the important gatherings. According to the statement, Buhari expressed his support and unwavering commitment to the party while conveying his best wishes for a successful meeting where crucial decisions pertaining to the party and the nation would be discussed.

In the statement, Shehu said, “Former President Muhammadu Buhari has explained his inability to be present at the caucus meeting and the national executive committee, NEC, meetings of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to which he has been invited. He has conveyed his apologies, indicating that he is unable to attend due to commitments earlier made.”

It was also revealed that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who holds a prominent position within the party, similarly offered his apologies for not being able to attend the events. Osinbajo cited his prior commitments that necessitated his presence outside the country.

The APC had previously announced the suspension of its planned national caucus and national NEC meetings on July 17, raising speculations about the party’s internal affairs. However, the recent rescheduling of the meetings aims to address pertinent issues crucial to the party’s future.

Despite the absence of both Buhari and Osinbajo, the party leaders have vowed to continue with the meetings as scheduled, working collectively to strategize and resolve key matters concerning the party’s development and national interest.

The APC remains one of Nigeria’s dominant political parties, and its decisions in these meetings are anticipated to have far-reaching implications for the nation’s political landscape. The absence of two prominent figures within the party is seen as an opportunity for other leaders to step up and showcase their capabilities in steering the party towards further growth and progress.

As the APC caucus meeting has already concluded, party members are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the national executive committee summit, where more intricate decisions will be made to shape the future trajectory of the ruling party and its vision for Nigeria.
