FASHINA OLATUNJI DAVID: All You Should Know About The TASUED Hero, Humble Teejay

Comrade Fashina Olatunji David popularly known as Humble Teejay, was a gallant alutarian who met his demise in 400L as a student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) after an auto-crash involving other comrades on their way to the Ogun State House, Abeokuta to protest the scrapping of TASUED.

HOW HE DIED:

In 2012, Ogun State Government, through its Commissioner for Education (Barr. Segun Odubela), with callous pronouncement of scrapping/merger plan to revert TASUED to College of Education and merged it with Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ago-Iwoye. Students and lecturers protested the move, citing that the school was doing well with the formula (1-2-8) as the first university of education in Nigeria, second in Africa and Eight in World.

Students’ Union President, Comrade Oyekanmi Abdullaihi pka Plato led the students’ and prominent Ijebu’s leaders stood up to rescue scrapping of TASUED, it was obvious to all and sundry that the Governor is on a vengeance mission on his predecessor legacy (lack of continuity ideology)… For several weeks, the campus boiled as police tear-gassed the students, who demonstrated against the government’s plan. We pleaded with him but Mr. Governor remains cantankerous.

After much consultation, on 14th of February, 2012 at exactly 10:00am Tasuedites assemble at the university gate with a mission to converge for governor‘s office with multitude of students in order to convince him that we are highly determined to have TASUED which is our collective heritage. About ten buses conveying students/comrades left together at the campus gate heading to Abeokuta governor‘s office, the buses were nearby to Kobape, all of a sudden the tyre of one of the buses bursted , it stumbled and veer off the road before we could know what has happened things has turn tops-turvy.

It so sadden that bruises covers the body of the accident victims but it so unfortunate that one of Humble TJ‘s arm was outside before the accident occurred, he lost his right arm to the accident, he was rushed down to emergency hall at Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta, the university management and Tasued alumni came to our rescue at the hospital, Fashina Olatunji left the world after he saw his arm being amputated, his last statement was TASUED! TASUED!! TASUED!!! before he gave up to the ghost which shows the love he had for the existence of TASUED as a degree institution, what a pathetic and traumatic situation, we all cried bitterly and insisted that the struggle to regain their institution will continue because the spirit of Fashina will not forgive them (Tasuedites) if they abandoned the struggle, we lamented and prayed for his departed soul to continue to rest in perfect peace.

The major caption on newspapers was; “TASUED Student Buried Amid Tears”, including PM NEWS
