Executive Director Urges President Tinubu to Curtail Corruption and Select Best Minds for Cabinet Roles
CSO Advocates for Strategic Cabinet Appointments to Build Trust and Strengthen Institutions

In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Habila Kayit, the Executive Director of Godspeed Leadership and Mentorship Development Initiative (GLEMDI), called on President Bola Tinubu to be deliberate and purposeful in appointing his cabinet members. The CSO emphasized that the lessons learned from the 2023 general election, which highlighted Nigeria’s diversity and the actions of self-centered politicians, necessitate the need for the president to promote unity through his cabinet appointments.

Kayit emphasized the importance of selecting individuals who would foster sustainable growth and economic stability in the nation. He acknowledged that the task ahead for President Tinubu and the National Assembly is enormous and requires urgent attention. The executive director pointed out that public trust in the system has been eroded due to the ability of certain public offenders to evade justice, often shielded by powerful politicians.

To address these challenges, Kayit stressed the need for the president to demonstrate political will in strengthening institutions and ensuring they can effectively and independently execute their core mandates. He highlighted the prevalent issue of public offenders taking advantage of their association with influential figures, which hampers the prosecution process. Kayit firmly believes that President Tinubu holds the power to rectify these wrongs.

Kayit further advocated for curbing systemic corruption and maladministration as crucial steps toward running an effective government that benefits all citizens. He criticized the selection processes of the past, which have favored less competent individuals based on sentiments and favoritism. However, Kayit expressed optimism that these challenges can be overcome if approached holistically.

“The era of compensating incompetent politicians with appointments should be over, and the need to assemble the best brains to create a lasting experience is long overdue,” said Kayit. He urged President Tinubu to assemble a team of exceptional human resources capable of providing a roadmap for economic recovery, diversifying sources of revenue, and strengthening institutions. Emphasizing the non-negotiable nature of Nigeria’s unity, he called for unity-building efforts at this opportune moment to forge a prosperous nation.

In conclusion, Kayit appealed to both citizens and leaders to be intentional in promoting national unity, while commending President Tinubu for demonstrating himself as a dependable leader. He encouraged the president to remain steadfast on the path of progression, assuring him that history would remember him favorably. With the urgent and imperative tasks ahead, the nation looks to President Tinubu to assemble a competent and dedicated cabinet that will bring about positive change and national cohesion.
