The Stadio Olimpico will be tonight’s venue for the Conference League semi-final between AS Roma and Leicester City. The first leg ended a one all draw as Leicester City came from behind to equalize courtesy Ademola Lookman. The Foxes will look to make it to the final against Mourinho’s men. Roma put up a very good performance albeit away from home last Thursday.
Neither side have any injuries to report heading into tonight’s encounter at the Italian capital. Roma played out a goalless draw against Bologna at home in their quest to make a top four slot in the Serie A. Leicester meanwhile lost 3-1 to Tottenham on Sunday with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring a 90th minute consolation.
The match proves to be a cagey affair with both teams having stars in different parts of the pitch. Wesley Fofana’s return has been met with a lot of joy by Brendan Rodgers and his backroom staff. The young defender suffered an injury that left him sidelined for nearly a year. James Justin also made his return after suffering an ACL damage that left him out since February of 2021 till the start of 2022.
Chris Smalling has become a colossal figure in defense for Roma and the fact that he has worked with Jose Mourinho seems to have a good impact on the Englishman. Tammy Abraham is certainly one to watch tonight as the goal poacher has been in revived form under Mourinho and has reclaimed his place on Gareth Southgate’s England squad. With 23 goals in all competitions this season, Abraham has been one of Serie A best players.
Jamie Vardy made a return to the Leicester squad when he came off the bench for Patson Daka against Spurs on Sunday. One of the best strikers in the football game, Vardy will be a handful for the Roma backline tonight. Feyenoord also go away to Marseille at the Velodrome with Feyenoord having won 3-2 at the de Kuip last week. This is the inaugural season of the UECL and the winner gets automatic qualification into the UEFA Champions League.
