Following a pronouncement of 24-hour curfew by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, residents have expressed displeasure with a common notion that the government is trying to suppress the EndSARS protests.
Sanwo-Olu earlier imposed Curfew across the state via a statement released through his official Twitter account:
I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society. Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our state. As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.
I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October,2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets.
The reason is because a lot of people will be arrested under the disguise of breaking curfew etc, we can’t have a situation where people are just kept in detention. Even a few hrs in detention in a Nigerian cell is dangerous enough.

Show me a better joke than the Lagos state Governor. He just imposed a 24hr curfew in the state.
Still on still, we're gonna #EndSars

The government’s response is a 24hr curfew in Lagos.

But Lagos, how do you declare 24hrs curfew 4 hours to when the curfew would start in a place like Lagos.
You expect everyone in Lagos to get back to their houses 4pm today, in just 4 hours.
So the police would now begin their brutality in full force. #EndSARS

Lagos state, Edo state, please journalists are essential services.
Thank you for your cooperation.

This man legit declared a curfew that should take effect from 4PM at 12PM so that the people stuck in traffic can use the private jet the Lagos state government provided for everyone 😊

Curfew in Lagos: A temporary loss for both sides
The #EndSARS protesters have some wind knocked off their sail
Lagos State to lose billions in revenue.

Curfew in Lagos: Much as I agree it's necessary to maintain law & order, I must also say a huge SHAME on the government. If you react as quick as this to #PoliceBrutality, poverty, lack of education, poor housing & corruption, there'd be no need for the protests in d first place

This curfew in lagos a kinda sweet strategy for us! Sebi na Curfew till further notice….If everyone steps back and relax till further notice the protest will resume immediately the curfew is over! you copy? #EndSARS
