This was disclosed in a statement by Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesperson. The visit is expected to last for eight days, and it is his last to the kingdom as the country’s president.

During his stay, Buhari will perform the Umrah, also known as the lesser pilgrimage, a significant religious obligation for Muslims. The president will be accompanied by his aides.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will travel to Saudi Arabia on an official visit from Tuesday, April 11th to 19th on his last trip to the Kingdom as President, during which he will perform Umrah, the Lesser Pilgrimage.” He will be accompanied by his aides, the statement read.

Buhari, who won re-election for a second term in 2019, was first elected in 2015 after defeating former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, is expected to be sworn in on May 29. However, some opposition parties are challenging his victory at the just concluded general election.

The purpose of Buhari’s visit to Saudi Arabia is yet to be disclosed. Still, it is speculated that the president would discuss issues of mutual interest between the two countries, including economic, political, and security cooperation.

Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have maintained a cordial relationship over the years, with the kingdom providing support for the country’s developmental projects.
