Apple is set to release three phones next year with 5G connectivity.

Reports claim that the Qualcomm X55 5G modem will be paired with a new Apple chipset (the A14 Bionic) and will be the first from the company to use a 5-nanometer process.

Moving to smaller manufacturing processes makes chips more efficient while allowing more processing power into a smaller space.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated back in July that the company was planning to release its first 5G phones in 2020 and the recent reports confirm that Apple is indeed switching to a 5nm fabrication process from the 7nm process that has been in use since the A12 Bionic chip debuted in 2018.

Huawei is also thought to be working on its own 5nm chip that is set to launch at a similar time next year.
