EFCC has raided the residence of former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode over alleged public funds.
Ambode is being investigated by the EFCC over alleged misappropriation of public funds while he was the governor of the state.
The anti-graft agency had frozen some accounts linked to Ambode as part of its investigation on the alleged fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, August 20, entered the residence of the immediate past governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, raiding the building as part of an ongoing corruption investigation. Premium Times reports that the spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Tony Orilade, confirmed that Ambode is under a corruption probe.
Information was gathered that Ambode’s residence in his hometown of Epe was being searched as of 9:35 am, according to Orilade, who confirmed the development. The residence of the former governor’s chief of staff in the same Epe neighborhood was also being searched.
Billions of naira were allegedly misappropriated in the four years of Ambode in office, and detectives have been busy trying to untangle all webs around the alleged corruption. It was gathered that about two weeks ago, multiple bank accounts holding billions and linked to Ambode were frozen as part of the probe. Ambode, however, denied links to both the accounts and any allegations of corruption while in office.
It was reported that he said he had no account that contains N9.9billion let alone being frozen by the antigraft agency.
