The Serie A season for the 2021/2022 season ended on a high for AC Milan who won the league title for the first time since the 2010/2011 season and it was a memorable away win over Sassuolo to conclude the final day of the season in Italy. With City rivals chasing them by just two points, any slip from the Rossoneri would see Inter clinch the title as they also won at home.

The opening goal came from Olivier Giroud in the first half when Portuguese winger Rafa Leao dribbled past a good number of defenders and put in a cross that was met by Giroud’s left foot and he nutmegged the goalkeeper to make it one-nil. Milan doubled their lead and it was again Leao and Giroud combining to make it two. Leao dribbled a defender and put in a great ball into the 18-yard box and again Giroud was on hand to fire home.

The third goal was also in the first half and it was Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie who fired a left-footed shot that was well cut back by Rafa Leao again from the right-wing this time. With the score at three-nil, Milan created more chances with Sandro Tonali repelled by the goalkeeper of Sassuolo.  The home side also had a great opportunity that was well saved by Mike Maignan who went down quickly to keep the ball away from Milan’s goal.

The Rossoneri are back to title-winning ways after more than a decade of winning the Italian league title. It was an emotional evening with many players shedding tears of joy over their title success. Inter Milan also won their match but the two-point advantage remained with Milan who did the needful by winning over Sassuolo to avoid any slip-ups.

Cagliari, Venezia, and Genoa have been relegated from the Serie A, with Leece and Cremonese also gaining promotion to the top tier. Pisa will face Monza in the playoff final to book the third slot for the 2022/2023 season. The Golden Boot winner in Italy was Ciro Immobile, with the Lazio striker banging in 27 goals at the end of the campaign.  Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi finished as the top assist provider and clinched the Playmaker’s award with 14 assists in the league.
