The New York Yankees are dominating the first half of the Major League Baseball season. They were the first team to reach 50 wins and are on track to break the wins record set by the 2001 Mariners with 116. Betting odds and MLB picks all season have favored the team in the Pinstriped jerseys as they chase history.
New York is on track to win 120 games this season if they keep up their winning ways. The crazy thing is, this is not even the best start in franchise history for New York, it is the third best. The Yankees seem to always be expected to be at the top, but potentially breaking the win record did not seem plausible. There is still a lot of baseball left, but we could be witnessing something we have not seen in over 20 years.
This may be the third-best start ever for the Yankees, but it also ranks as the ninth-best start through 69 games by any AL or NL team in league history. If you are making World Series predictions, the Yankees have been the favorite since the season began.
With a winning percentage just shy of 75%, they do not even need to keep on that path to break the Mariners’ record. They would need to win seven out of every 10 games or so to break the record, which will be a daunting task.
Star-Studded Offense
Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson, and the list goes on and on. They have the best offense in the MLB. They have the most runs most home runs, most RBIs, and the best OPS in the entire MLB.
Anthony Rizzo is on track to hit 45 home runs this year, to go along with his 1.5 WAR, 49 RBIs, and .846 OPS. Aaron Judge is having an MVP-like season and is at the top of the race thanks to his 3.5 WAR, .302 BA, 27 home runs, 52 RBIs, and 1.042 OPS. He is on track to hit over 60 homers this year. Judge is putting up massive numbers as he boosts his free-agent stock this coming summer.
Things are just clicking for this beardless ballclub. Matt Carpenter has reinvented himself and has six home runs, 13 RBIs, and a 1.199 OPS in just 34 at-bats. Jose Trevino came out of nowhere this season as the Yankees everyday catcher batting .283 with an incredible 137 OPS+.
One through nine on the batting order, there is not a single batter that pitchers do not fear going up against. They have great power, great discipline to do what it takes to get on base, and the deepest bench in all of baseball.
Pitching Wins Games
Unfortunately for the entire AL East and the rest of the league, they are the most well-rounded MLB. Their league-leading record has come in large part due to their pitching rotation.
New York has the lowest ERA in the AL with 2.94 and they have three starters in their rotation who are in contention for the AL Cy Young Award. Teams have the lowest batting average in the league when they go up against the New Yorkers. Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, Nestor Cortez, Jameson Taillon, and Luis Severino round out the rotation.
Gerrit Cole is one of the best pitchers in the entire MLB as of the past couple of years. The 31-year-old is 6-1 on the year with a 3.14 ERA and has the fourth most strikeouts in the big leagues. He is the definition of an ace but has not been the best pitcher for this team.
Nestor Cortez is the No. 3 starter for the team and a lot of MLB predictions have him as the AL Cy Young winner. Cortez and his mustache have the ninth-best ERA this year at 2.31, and the ninth-best WHIP at 0.96.
Not to mention, they also have a very reliable bullpen with arms like Clay Holmes who is killing it with a sub-one ERA, and multiple other relievers doing well like Michael King and Wandy Peralta. Oh yeah, the Yankees also have one of the most coveted arms of all time in the flame thrower Aroldis Chapman.
