Barca boss Xavi Hernandez has confirmed that defender Ronald Araujo is recovering very well after he suffered a head injury in yesterday’s victory that saw him pass out temporarily. The centre-back was involved in a head clash with teammate Gavi when they both contested for an aerial ball, resulting in Araujo collapsing on the pitch and the physios rushing g to resuscitate him.

Araujo was then rushed to the hospital and subsequently was revived at the hospital, where he stayed overnight. In a press release, Xavi confirmed that Araujo was in a stable condition and was recovering very well. The Catalans defeated Celta Vigo 3-1 at the Camp Nou with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring twice and Memphis Depay adding a third.

Araujo recently signed a new long-term contract at Barcelona, keeping him at the club until June 2026 with the option of a further year. Araujo has declared that he intends to stay at Barcelona for the rest of his career after signing the improved deal. The Uruguayan was instrumental under Ronald Koeman and has proven himself under Xavi, causing the Spanish gaffer to laud the youngster on many occasions.

The 22-year-old had been on many clubs’ transfer lists like Inter and  Juventus. However, Barcelona rejected their advances and Araujo has only wanted to remain at the Camp Nou so both clubs retracted their interests in the defender. Araujo is one of Barca’s most versatile players, possessing the ability to play majorly at centre-back. He also plays as a right-back and has had a few shifts at left-back.

It is not clear when Araujo will return to training following his head injury at the Celta Vigo game. Xavi did not state when the Uruguayan will return to training and he now joins the injury list of the club. On the bright side, winger Ansu Fati returned to the squad after nearly three months of being injured and this has prompted huge joy for all Barca fans.

The Spain international has been injured for most of the season but always puts up a good performance whenever he is fit to play. Ansu Fati came 2nd in the 2020 Golden Boy rankings, finishing behind Erling Haaland and directly above Alphonso Davies. Barcelona have hinted that Fati is an ”Untouchable” to many clubs, insisting they will not sell the winger to any club and are planning a long-term future with the 19-year-old.

Barcelona will listen to Atletico Madrid should they decide to trigger Antoine Griezemann’s option-to-buy clause and will receive £33m for the France international. The forward has found his form again at his old club after a dismal stint at Barcelona made him opt for a loan spell on last summer’s deadline day.
