Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud opened the scoring in the 36th minute off an assist from Christian Pulisic.Liverpool’s Sadio mane found the back of the net twice in the second half, his second in the extra time. Roberto Firmino, a second-half substitute for the Reds, was the Orchestrator of both goals.
The 101st-minute penalty from Jorginho gave Chelsea life after Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian appears to make contact with Tammy Abraham.
The match would require all five penalty takers to find a winner. Chelsea’s final shot, by Abraham, was saved by Adrian.
The UEFA super cup is a match between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League, both won this year by English clubs.
