Following a series of devastating earthquakes in Turkey, reports emerged that access to Twitter had been restricted within the country. However, on Thursday morning, Turkish users were able to access the platform without the need for remote access services or VPNs.

Internet monitoring organization Netblocks had previously noted the block, citing multiple internet providers in Turkey. During this time, access to Twitter could only be achieved through the use of VPNs.

There was no official confirmation regarding the reported restrictions. Some Turkish politicians and celebrities had accused the government in Ankara of intentionally disrupting communication on the social media platform.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted overnight that the Turkish government had informed the company that access to Twitter would soon be reinstated. In the wake of the earthquakes, many individuals trapped in the rubble had used social media to seek help.
