The Nigerian Music Industry is booming and gradually having a face presence in the global scene. Nigerian musicians are primarily the biggest export in the country right now with huge fanbase across the world. Afro-pop aka the Neo-African sound has sold out to the world and these music ambassadors are getting the notes on it.
As we edging out of the first half of 2017, here is review list of 10 biggest hit tracks in Nigerian within the period of January to June 2017.
10. Olamide – Pepper Dem Gang ft. Davolee
YBNL rapper, was able to penetrate the street so hard with the Pepper Dem Gang which has become the internet slang and widely used expression on the street. At the sound of ‘Oh baby’, the club gets in another wind. The song has done massively well in the local scene and in the diaspora.
9. Nonso Amadi – Tonight
Apparently, a different wave, like not a regular song any artist could just hit us with. Nonso Amadi’s Tonight has got a magic on many listeners with his eclectic vocal delivery. No doubt, it’s the R&B song that recorded the highest groove within the period under review. It’s grossly amazing an artist could still make a shine with such an R&B tune in the midst of dancehall and hip hop music dominating the Industry. Thumbs Up Nonso!
8. Tekno – Rara
The music genius that has got a lot of hits to his name. Tekno is a multi-dimensional artist whose knowledge of music runs so deep. It turned out to be amazing what he made of the song Rara. It’s meant to be a conscious song with some vital message but Tekno along the line infused a kind of vibe into it that makes you forget the theme of the song and just swing with rhythm. This is killing. Rara was really a hot shot for Tekno.
7. D’banj – It’s Not A Lie ft. Harrysong, Wande Coal
The most recent of them all. The major reason the song is the buzz is mainly because of the combination of artists on it. Harrysong is underrated, no doubt! His contemporary highlife delivery on the sound is indeed applaudable. And Black Diamond Wande Coal, dude’s vocal dexterity never goes sour. They got us reminiscing the Mo’hits years. D’banj truly claimed the waves with this joint springing up with over a million views stream on YouTube.
6. Tiwa Savage – All Over
Mavin Queen Tiwa Savage has got her game back and for the first time, with a bang! All Over became a trailblazer immediately it dropped. Tiwa Savage created the sound she’s really known for and made it resounding this time. Airplays, DJ mixes, club jams, almost everywhere, Tiwa Savage literally took them All Over.
5. Wizkid – Come Closer ft. Drake
Nigerian-born turned international Starboy Wizkid became a more interesting item in the global music scene the moment he officially dropped the single that featured Drake. Though for some reason, Drizzy couldn’t appear in the video the song ran on top of charts for several weeks. He’s one of the reasons African sound has gone global. Thumbs up WizLion
4. Niniola – Maradona
The lady has got so much infectious vibe in her sound. To many listeners, Maradona appeared first like a regular track, all of sudden they just got bitten by the bug and next thing, it became an addiction. Niniola effortlessly made a hit with this song.
3. Davido – Fall
Do we really need to talk about how this song became a hit? I don’t think so. Davido has been magical lately with his sound. Everything he bounces on becomes a hit, just like that! The song within two days of release rose to the number spot on iTunes displacing YCee’s Juice that had been topping for weeks.
2. YCee – Juice ft. Maleek Berry
Too much juice should have been the title. YCee struck gold the second time after the Jagaban move but this time, he did it with awesome producer, Maleek Berry. The song moved from being the Slay Queen anthem to the everyone’s favorite.
1. Davido – IF
The song that has caused so much calamity to boys in the street. I mean what was Davido thinking when he mentioned ’30 billion for your account ee’. Well, like someone said, you never can tell the currency or denomination he was talking about. Even at that, 30billion kobo is a whopping 300 million naira. Away from that, this song has no contest at the moment, it actually hit up to magnificent height. Any song that’s going to overtake that height has to be extraordinary.
