Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele is still not certain where he will be next season. The France international has rejected a contract extension at Barcelona and he is rumored to join PSG next season as preparations step up going into the final moments of the 2021/2022 season.
Dembele is expected to communicate his decision to the Barcelona board in a few days’ time(presumably Monday). However, the winger is yet to ascertain whether he will remain at the Nou Camp next season.
Head coach Xavi Hernandez is a big fan of Dembele and he is hoping the forward signs the offer brought forward by the club. Recall that Dembele turned down a contract proposal back in January and opted to leave the club in the winter but he didn’t receive fanciful offers at the time. This was due to the fact that whichever club it was, had to pay the remaining fee in his deal with Barcelona.
Dembele now feels certain he will make the right choice as he is set to make up his mind. He has so far received offers from Newcastle, PSG, and Manchester United are reportedly in the mix of the whole transfer saga as well. Xavi remains steadfast in his belief that Dembele will remain at Barcelona and a few teammates like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also urging the Frenchman to stay.
Dembele wants a wage increase at Barcelona and this was rebuffed by the club, who do not believe he should earn as much as £350k weekly. However, Dembele’s agent is confident his player will be met well by the likes of Newcastle and PSG, who are willing to pay him up to the said amount should he decide to join. The Magpies are not his favorite option as he intends to play Champions League football next season.
PSG seems the most likely option and the club is only waiting for Angel Di Maria to exit and then they will begin discussions with Dembele’s representatives. PSG are also going to try to sign another wide man, with Kylian Mbappe’s future still uncertain as things stand. Dembele could call Paris home as he will be welcomed with open arms at the club.
