Ten Hag Addresses Rashford's Nightclub Incident and Performance
en Hag Talks Rashford’s Night Out and United’s Season Challenges

Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, revealed on Friday that Marcus Rashford has issued an apology for his actions, having gone to a nightclub shortly after the team’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester City last weekend. Rashford’s recent dip in performance has played a significant role in United’s dismal start to the season.

Despite scoring 30 goals for the club in the previous season, the England international has managed to find the net only once in 14 appearances this campaign. United has encountered a rough start to the season, suffering eight losses in their first 15 matches across all competitions, marking their worst start since the 1962/63 season.

Ten Hag is currently facing mounting pressure as Manchester City’s convincing win at Old Trafford was followed by a 3-0 victory for Newcastle, eliminating United from the League Cup on Wednesday. It’s worth noting that Rashford was on the bench for that match.

Manager Ten Hag clarified that Rashford’s benching was a result of rotational decisions rather than disciplinary actions. However, he did not confirm or deny whether the 26-year-old had been subjected to a fine.

“Yes, I am aware of it,” stated Ten Hag in reference to Rashford’s post-derby night out. “I spoke with him about it. It’s unacceptable, I told him, he apologized, and that’s it. For the rest, it’s an internal matter.”

Nevertheless, Ten Hag emphasized that Rashford, a product of the United academy, remains as dedicated as ever. “He’s very motivated to put things right. I know the effort he is putting in. He’s totally committed to our team,” added the former Ajax boss. “So, he made a mistake, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t fit in. I see his daily commitment in training, his off-pitch conduct, and I’m confident he is doing everything to assist the team in performing well and securing victories.”

Ten Hag also expressed his belief that Rashford would rediscover his scoring touch, which would help steer United back on course.

Looking ahead, Manchester United faces a challenging Premier League fixture against Fulham on Saturday, followed by a crucial Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen in the upcoming midweek.

“He needs to position himself as close as possible to the opponents’ goal because that’s where his strengths lie,” Ten Hag commented on Rashford’s return to form. “He’s crucial for us in that area, and he will contribute significantly to our success. As a team, we need to support him in getting there, and he, as an individual, must make the right movements to arrive at the opportune moments. I’m confident he will bounce back.”
