On Monday evening, there were reports of tension in the Okehi local government area of Kogi, as some suspected assailants allegedly blew up the administrative offices in the area.

In January, there was a fatal explosion in Kogi that was reportedly sponsored by the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād.

The explosion resulted in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira, but no loss of life was reported. However, at the time of filing this report, the Divisional Police Officer in the area, Yakubu Ovanja, could not be reached for comment.

The Kogi State Government has not yet reacted to the incident, and efforts made by the reporter to obtain their response were unsuccessful.
