Super Falcons Aim for Olympic Qualification Against Cameroon

Randy Waldrum, the head coach of the Super Falcons, remains optimistic about his team’s prospects in their upcoming match against Cameroon in Abuja this Monday.

In the initial leg of their third-round qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games, held in Douala on Friday, the team, which has claimed the African championship nine times, and the Indomitable Lionesses ended the match without goals, settling for a 0-0 draw.

A goal by Jennifer Echegini in the 52nd minute was controversially deemed offside during the encounter.

Following the match, Waldrum expressed unwavering confidence. “We don’t fear anybody,” he declared. He stated the team’s impressive performances against some of the world’s top teams, stating, “We played the European champions (England) to penalty kicks in the World Cup and held the Olympic gold medalist (Canada) to a draw at the World Cup, we got a victory over Australia. We can play with the best teams in the world.”

Waldrum also acknowledged Cameroon’s efforts, saying, “I give credit to Cameroon for the job they did. But there is no fear on our part.”

A win over Cameroon would position the Super Falcons to compete against either the African champions, South Africa, or Tanzania in the concluding round of qualifiers.

In their first-leg match on Friday, South Africa secured a 3-0 victory against Tanzania.
