The Black Stars of Ghana played out a nil-nil draw with the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The game was played at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi in what is the first of a two legged qualifier in a quest to make the winter FIFA World cup.

The Black Stars created more chances and had more of the possession. The Super Eagles were rather dismal in the first half hour in the game but the second half brightened the game, with changes made by interim manager Augustine Eguavon.

Ghana had shots that were saved by Nigeria’s goalie Francis Uzoho. Uzoho kept the Ghanaian attack at bay as did the likes of Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong. Nigeria began to threaten the Ghanaian defence and even won a penalty in  the 74th minute which was ruled out by VAR as there was a foul by Kelechi Iheanacho in the build up.

Notably,Ademola Lookman of Leicester City made his Nigeria debut, coming on for Moses Simon.

All eyes now turn to Abuja on Tuesday where Nigeria host Ghana in what will be the deciding game in who qualifies for Qatar 2022.

A few players came off injured like Innocent Bonke and Joe Aribo and both will be assessed ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Ghana. Francis Uzoho was voted player of the match for his impressive display.
