Akpabio, disclosed this when the Ekiti state governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, and other parliament members visited him in his office at the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Reassuring the Nigerian populace, the Senate President acknowledged the challenges faced by citizens due to the removal of fuel subsidies. He emphasized that the decision to eliminate the subsidy was part of the current administration’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption, as the subsidy system had been plagued by corrupt practices.

Akpabio firmly stated, “Nigeria as a country would not have been able to sustain itself in the coming years if the fuel subsidy had not been removed.”

Furthermore, Senator Akpabio stressed that the government would have the financial capacity to meet salary and wage obligations once they are reviewed upwards. This move aims to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on workers and ensure their well-being during this transitional period.

Governor Oyebanji expressed his admiration for the Senate President’s accomplishments during his tenure over the past month. He conveyed the support of both the people and the government of Ekiti state, affirming their commitment to collaborating with the legislature to propel the nation forward.

The upward salary review proposed by the Senate reflects the government’s acknowledgment of the challenges faced by Nigerian workers following the removal of fuel subsidies.

By addressing these concerns, the government aims to ease the burden on its citizens and ensure a smooth transition toward a more transparent and corruption-free economic system.
