The AIU has accused Amusan of violating its rules by failing to attend three tests within 12 months. If found guilty of this anti-doping rule violation, she could face a two-year suspension, which may be reduced to a minimum of one year based on the level of fault.

Taking to her Instagram page, in the early hours of Wednesday to address the allegations made by the AIU, the Nigerian athlete refuted the charges and asserted her status as a “clean athlete.”

She expressed her intention to contest the accusations and have her case reviewed by a tribunal composed of three arbitrators before the start of the upcoming World Championships next month.

In her statement, the 26-year-old athlete stated, “Today, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having three missed tests in 12 months. I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships.

I am a clean athlete, and I am regularly (maybe more than usual) tested by the AIU – I was tested within days of my third ‘missed test.’ I have faith that this will be resolved in my favor and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August.”

Despite the charges and legal battle ahead, Amusan has been showcasing remarkable form leading up to the highly anticipated 2023 World Athletics Championship, where she is expected to defend her title.

On Tuesday, she secured an impressive victory at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Hungary, completing the women’s 100m hurdles in a time of 12.25 seconds. This triumph followed her recent success at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland, where she set a new meet record by running a season-best time of 12.34 seconds on Sunday.

Amusan’s outstanding performances in these events serve as a testament to her prowess and highlight her status as a top contender in the upcoming World Championships. As the charges against her unfold, the athletics community eagerly awaits the resolution of this case, hoping for a fair and just outcome that will allow Amusan to compete at the highest level.
