Dr. Marindoti Oludare, the Convener/National Coordinator of the Social Rehabilitation Gruppe (SRG), a socio-political organization, has called on all government security agencies to work diligently towards ensuring a peaceful transfer of power to President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on May 29. He made this statement in response to the Department of State Services (DSS) warning that some groups were planning to instigate violence ahead of the handover.
Oludare expressed his concern over the post-election agitations and instigations in Nigeria. He particularly expressed his dismay at the losers of the election who have resorted to making reckless and incendiary comments about the results of the election in an attempt to truncate a peaceful transfer of power. He urged that they should be reined in and not allowed to further exploit their followers by propagating election denialism and the big lie for their financial gain.
He discredited the claims made by the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, which impugned the judiciary in an attempt to confuse their followers. Oludare noted that the losers of the election should bear the loss and not exploit their followers by propagating falsehoods for their own selfish gains.
Oludare clarified the claims made against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, including the claim that he was once indicted for a drug offense in the US, stating that it was an exercise in futility and spurious allegations. Oludare explained that Tinubu was never indicted nor named as a defendant in the case. The accounts were in his name, and the defendants were the accounts. He went on to explain that Asiwaju was not even informed of the seizure warrant on his account until he called his bank to make a transaction in January ’92. Furthermore, Oludare clarified that Asiwaju and the Tinubu family were the claimants, and they successfully claimed a majority of their property. The affidavit acknowledged that Asiwaju had made income from his deposits since 1984 of which not tax returns had been filed. Asiwaju at this point had relocated to England and subsequently Nigeria. Tax withholding was the responsibility of the paying bank.
Regarding the claim that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu owns 25% of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oludare described it as ludicrous. He cited Datti Baba Ahmed’s suggestion that the court should suffer a Bipolar Judicial Disorder because it was just laughable. Oludare emphasized that asking the court to cancel the election was like Manchester United asking the English FA to cancel the match after they had lost 7-0.
Oludare urged Nigerians to eschew violence and not allow unscrupulous politicians to exploit their emotions for financial gains in an attempt to recuperate their financial losses in the electoral process. He encouraged Nigerian youth to expect rapid economic growth and be ready to roll up their sleeves and play their part in the economic development of the country. Finally, he implored all aggrieved parties to go to court, as it is the most credible way to handle disputes arising from elections.
