South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was tragically killed in a shooting that took place at a night spot on Durban’s Florida Road on February 10th, 2023. Along with another individual, Forbes was shot and sustained fatal injuries while standing on the pavement. The incident took place around 22:00 PM, according to a first responder at the scene.
KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed the death of a well-known rapper and stated that they will not be releasing the names of the victims until a full investigation is completed.
The shooting took place in the popular entertainment district of Florida Road, which was temporarily shut down by police officers as they responded to the incident. According to ALS Paramedics, both victims sustained gunshot wounds and despite attempts to resuscitate one of them, they both passed away.
Forbes was scheduled to perform in Durban on the night of the shooting and had posted jovial scenes with friends on his Instagram account earlier in the evening. Efforts to contact police spokespeople are ongoing.
It is with deep sadness that we also recall the passing of Forbes’ fiancĂ©, Anele Tembe, who died from a fall from her hotel room in Cape Town in April 2021.
