Seun Kuti, a prominent Afrobeats singer, has been detained by the Lagos State Police following allegations of assaulting a police officer over the weekend. Benjamin Hundenyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, confirmed this development in a statement posted on his official Twitter account on Monday.

According to the statement, Seun Kuti voluntarily presented himself at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja during the early hours of the day. He was accompanied by his lawyer and a family representative, and subsequently placed under arrest.

This incident follows the recent order from the Inspector-General of Police to arrest Seun Kuti for his alleged assault on a policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. Vanguard, a local media outlet, previously reported that police officers had raided Seun Kuti’s apartment in Lagos and the renowned African Shrine in Ikeja in their attempt to apprehend him.

Although the police operatives visited Seun Kuti’s residence on Saturday night and Sunday morning, they were unable to locate him. Sources close to the matter have revealed that efforts are being made to track down the musician, who is suspected to have gone into hiding.

In response to the assault on the police officer, the Police Service Commission (PSC) issued a statement condemning the incident. The PSC commended the prompt action taken by the Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman Alkali, in ordering the arrest and prosecution of Seun Kuti.

The police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings will determine the outcome of this case, as the authorities strive to uphold the rule of law and maintain public order.
