Senator Ajibola Basiru Urges President of Court of Appeal to Resume Tribunal Activities in Osun State
Sen. Ajibola Basiru

On Wednesday, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the Senate spokesperson, urged the President of the Court of Appeal, Monica Dongban-Mensem, to ensure that the panel of judges in Osun immediately resumes tribunal activities within the next 24 hours. This was after he lost in the presidential and national assembly polls held on February 25.

Senator Basiru, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Osun Central district, made this request at a press conference in Osogbo. He explained that although applications had been submitted before the tribunal in Osun, no judge was available to hear them.

He emphasized the need for the prompt resumption of the tribunal’s activities, as election petitions are time-bound and no extension can be granted. Senator Basiru stated that the President of the Court of Appeal should prevail on the panel of judges to resume immediately to ensure electoral justice is done.

According to Senator Basiru, his party had submitted an application to the tribunal registry, and there were only 21 days left to file an election petition. By law, the application must be taken by one of the judges.

It should be noted that Senator Basiru lost his reelection bid to Olubiyi Fadeyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last senatorial election for Osun Central in the state.
