According to sources close to Big Brother Naija, MultiChoice spent a whopping N3.2 billion producing the latest edition of the reality show.

The above figure doesn’t even include the grand prize of N85 million but includes investments made by sponsors and other promotional and marketing expenses.

BBNaija is a reality show that airs in 49 African nations courtesy of MultiChoice’s DStv and GOtv platforms. It is the most popular reality TV show in Africa and currently boasts an audience of 40 million viewers.

Recent reports have revealed that setting up the house in which the show takes place alone costs as much as N2.5 billion. This includes the cost of constructing the house, fittings, and furnishings that give the show its regal look, security, and other needs.

Sources close to the media powerhouse say the 2020 edition is being run on an estimated N1 billion production budget. This covers production equipment, salaries of over 370 production crew, among other things.

In an Accenture published earlier in the year, MultiChoice Nigeria’s economic contribution to Nigeria was estimated at N634 million over the past five years.

The company was also reported to have created over 12,000 employment opportunities for Nigerians during the same period.
