Security Operatives Deployed Ahead of Governorship Election Appeal Verdict
Gov. Adeleke

As the Appeal Court in Abuja prepares to deliver its judgement in the petition against Governor Ademola Adeleke by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, security operatives have been deployed to various locations in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, in order to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.

Former Governor Oyetola had challenged the outcome of the July 16th governorship election, which saw Adeleke emerge as the state governor, before the election petition tribunal in Osun state. After months of trial, the tribunal, led by Justice Tertse Kume, declared Oyetola the winner of the election on legally valid votes, citing irregularities in 744 polling units across ten local government areas of the state. The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue it to Oyetola instead.

Displeased with the verdict, Adeleke and INEC have appealed the decision, seeking to have the judgement overturned and Adeleke’s victory affirmed. In anticipation of the court’s decision, security operatives, including police forces and special units, have been stationed at strategic locations in Osogbo, such as the Olaiya flyover, Oke-Fia, Ayetoro, and Stadium roundabout, as well as at various political party offices, including the Tinubu-Shettima campaign office, APC secretariat, Imole House, and PDP secretariat at Biket junction.

The deployment of security operatives is intended to maintain peace and prevent any potential unrest following the announcement of the court’s decision. The presence of security personnel in these strategic locations will help to curb any attempts to incite violence and ensure that citizens are able to go about their daily activities without fear or disruption.
