The Catholic Church in Enugu has disowned Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the fiery director of Catholic Adoration Ministry Enugu, over his verbal attack on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections.

Mbaka has been trending on social media over his comments that Peter Obi is stingy and that he would not win the election. He said many abusive things about Peter which drew public anger toward him on social media.
The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has dissociated itself from recent comments made by Ejike Mbaka, spiritual director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie, the Enugu diocese said Mbakaβs comments are a βclear violationβ of the provisions of the canon law βwhich forbids priests from engaging in partisan politicsβ.
βThe Catholic Diocese of Enugu hereby condemns and dissociates herself from such unbecoming and divisive utterances from Fr. Mbaka,β the statement reads. The diocese said Mbakaβs views on the matter are βentirely personal to him and do not represent the position of the Catholic Diocese of Enuguβ.
βIn an effort to keep him united to the Body of Christ, we enjoin him to refrain from making further provocative prophecies or utterances capable of heating up the polity,β the diocese said.
βWe assure the people of God and the general public that the Catholic Diocese of Enugu is taking the due canonical process.
βFinally, we urge all the People of God to continue to pray for peaceful elections and to discharge their civic responsibilities by getting their Permanent Voterβs Card (PVC) and casting their votes in order to select the right candidates.β
