American R&B singer, El DeBarge was taken into custody by police officers at a gas station on Sunday morning, around 3:40 AM on January 8th.
The incident occurred early on Sunday morning after the police officers noticed that the singer’s car had expired tags.
When the officers approached DeBarge’s vehicle, they observed an expandable metal baton in plain sight. As possession of this weapon is illegal, the officers decided to search the car further. This led to the discovery of pepper spray and suspected narcotics.
DeBarge, who was also found to be driving without a valid driver’s license, was arrested and charged with several offenses, including possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The drug found in his car is believed to be heroin.
The singer was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in March. It is unclear at this time how this arrest will affect his upcoming music projects.
