In his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, President Muhammadu Buhari welcomed president-elect Bola Tinubu and vice president-elect Kashim Shettima on Wednesday.

The visit came after they received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following their victory at the polls. Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), issued a statement saying that there were jubilant scenes at the home of the President when the President-elect and Vice President-elect arrived with their certificates of return.

According to the statement, President Buhari repeatedly expressed his excitement, saying, “My Good Lord, My Good Lord,” and “Fantastic,” upon seeing the “phenomenal election result.” He expressed his gratitude for a peaceful election process, adding that there were “no problems, no bloodshed, no accidents.” The President praised the Party supporters and the Presidential Campaign Council for their discipline, commitment, and hard work.

Tinubu, in an interview, stated that as a loyal party member, he visited to present the certificate to the President as the party leader and to commend him for his efforts to support democracy in Africa. He expressed gratitude for the largest democracy in Africa and emphasized the importance of tolerating defeat in a democratic society. “We have a nation to build,” he added.

The President-elect and his deputy were accompanied to Daura by several political figures, including governors, former governors, and ministers. The entourage included Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Chief Bisi Akande, the Governors of Katsina, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Lagos, and Jigawa, as well as the Governors of Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, and Ogun, and former Governors Ali Modu Sheriff and Abdulaziz Yari.
