Today, President Muhammadu Buhari will travel from Abuja to Accra, Ghana to attend the 3rd Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC), which was convened by President Nana Akuffo-Ado of Ghana. This meeting has been called to address the issues of peace and security in the fight against maritime-related crimes in the region.

In a statement released on Monday by his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina, it was revealed that President Buhari, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Assembly, will participate in high-level discussions on strategies for strengthening peace and security in the region. He will also deliver remarks at the meeting.

During his time as the Chairman of the Assembly, President Buhari led efforts to promote collective action by the Member States of the region, the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC), and their partners to prevent and address piracy.

The President will be accompanied by several government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd); and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
