Premier League action continued yesterday after Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 1-2 Birmingham, with Sadio Mane scoring the winner. The Villans scored first with Douglas Luiz finding the back of the net early in the first half. Liverpool equalized through Diogo Jota and ended up winning when Luis Diaz’s low cross was well met by Sadio Mane who tucked it in to take Liverpool top of the table.
Their stay at the top was short-lived as Manchester City defeated Wolves 1-5 to extend their three-point gap over the Reds. Four goals from Kevin De Bryune in what was a 10/10 performance from the Belgian midfielder sealed the deal for City, who suffered a heart-breaking defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League last week.
Elsewhere in Yorkshire, Leeds hosted Chelsea who was ahead of Arsenal with one point prior to the game at Elland Road. The Blues put three past the Whites with Mason Mount scoring as early as the fourth minute. Christain Pulisic got on the score sheet and it was all Chelsea from start to finish at Elland Road. Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku rounded up the scoring to make it three-nil to Chelsea. Chelsea go up to 70 points, four points clear of Arsenal.
In the East Midlands, Leicester defeated already relegated Norwich City 3-0 with their main marksman Jamie Vardy getting on the score sheet to further drown the Canaries as the Foxes are still hopeful of European places next season. Leicester were beaten by AS Roma 1-0, knocking them out of the UECL semi-finals and denying them a place in the final.
Watford held Everton to a goalless draw at Vicarage Road with the result not what either team would have hoped for as they are battling relegation and are trying to stay up in the Premier League. Newcastle are mathematically safe as they cannot be relegated this season following the results of the bottom teams on the log.
Tottenham hosts Arsenal in what is a deciding race to the top four. Arsenal stands a chance to go to the Champions League if they defeat Spurs tonight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tottenham have 64 points and a win will take them higher than Arsenal to 67 points. Many consider the game to be akin to a final and it could be the first time Arsenal finish ahead of Spurs at the end of the season since 2016.
