PDP Wins Majority Seats in Bauchi State Assembly

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in the recently concluded governorship and state Assembly elections in Bauchi state, Nigeria. The party, which had won the governorship seat but lost the majority of the membership of the State House of Assembly in the previous election held in 2019, secured 22 out of the 31 available seats in the 10th Assembly.

The list of winners, released by the Bauchi State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and made available to journalists on Tuesday by the Deputy Director of Voter Education, Aliyu Shaba, confirmed the PDP’s victory in the majority of the constituencies. The All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in the opposition in Bauchi state, won eight seats, while the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) secured one seat, making up the 31 seats in the Assembly.

The constituencies won by the PDP in the election include Duguri/Gwana, Abdullahi Dan-Bala; Kirfi, Umar Habibu; Bauchi Central, Jamilu Dahiri Barade; Zungur/Galambi, Yusuf Ahmed; Dass, Abdullahi Ahmed; Bogoro, Musa Nakwada; Lame Toro, Lawal Garba; Toro Jama’a, Saidu Hamza; Ningi, Abubakar Sulaiman; Bura, Tanko Bura; Hardawa Misau, Babayo Akuyam; and Dambam/Dagauda/Jalam, Mohammed Garba.

The PDP also won in Ganjuwa-East, Ladan Mohammed; Ganjuwa-West, Adamu Kawu; Katagum Zaki, Bello Maiwa; Sakwa Zaki, Wanzam Mohammed; and Itas/Gadau, Abdullahi Yusuf. Disina Shira Constituency was won by Hodi Jibir, Shira by Hassan Auwal, Giade by Adamu Abubakar, Madara/Chinade by Ala Ahmed, and Gamawa by Sarkin-Jadori Bello, all from the PDP.

Meanwhile, the APC secured victory in Azare/Madangala through Saleh Zakariyya, Udubo Gamawa via Lele Mohammed, Pali Alkaleri through Garba Aminu, and Darazo through Sulaiman Darazo. Malam Dauda Lawal of the APC also won the Sade state constituency, Yahaya Maikudi emerged victorious in Chiroma Misau, Abdul Rishi won in Lame Toro, and Abdulrasheed Adamu was declared winner of Lere/Bula. Mubarak Haruna of the NNPP clinched victory in Jama’are constituency.

Overall, the PDP’s majority win in the Bauchi State House of Assembly will allow the party to lead the Assembly in the coming years, as it sets to initiate and implement policies and programs that will benefit the people of Bauchi state.
